“How NOT To Take Care of Your Plant” by Woodland Productions
Rehearsals of the musical production, “Little Shop of Horrors” (the rock musical, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that “suddenly becomes a deadly threat to the worlds very existence) are in full swing at Woodland Theatre. Director Margueritte Richart is working to bring a different feel for this show to Woodlands. She has taken cues from the original 1960 black and white show, the 1986 musical and the Broadway musical version and is exited to present a more comical, 1960s satirical take on the play, focusing on the songs and the true feel of what the characters are going through and why they are so desperate to get out of Skid Row.
She is very pleased with the caliber of talent in the show she has seen so far, even with several newcomers to the show. We are very excited to welcome to the Woodland stage for the first time: Lauran Riser, who will play eager-to-please Audrey; David VanGuilder, who is playing the self indulged dentist; Myranda VanGuilder, as Chiffon, a member of the insightful trio; Cindy Ross, as a intrigued shopper and chorus member; Mike Eakins, as a skid row bum and chorus member; and another chorus member, Miranda Austin.
Returning to the Woodland stage as principle characters are: Adam Fisher-Jensen, whom was last seen in South Pacific, will play Seymour; Nancy Christopher and Karen Heflick, both seasoned veterans, will play the other two trio members, Ronnette and Crystal; George Eberth, a long time Woodland and Chewelah PACA member, will play Mr. Mushnik, the flower shop owner; Jerry Voelker, returns to the stage as the voice of Audrey II (and chorus).Other returning members who round out the cast are: Emma Richartz, Andrea Arnette, Karen DeVall, Katy Carnline, and Joe Richart.
The production team is also a lively group of talented volunteers whom are no stranger to Woodland Theatre. Assistant Director for the show is Ted Richart; Orchestra conductor, Gail Herbst; Vocal director, Stazya Richman; Choreography by Lis Motley and Linette Richie. Set Designer, Gene Drake; Head Seamstress, Peggy McKee; and Producer, Michelle Bakken.
There are many other people helping out behind the scenes and who are working hard to make it a great show that will be a “feast” of entertainment and another Woodland Productions “must see”. It is not too late to become involved with this production. If you would like to help out or are interested in becoming involved with Woodland Productions, please call Michelle at 509-951-0395.
