The first concert of the season, Carols of Christmas, will feature Woodland’s Orchestra and Choir. The orchestra will play 7 dances from The Nutcracker Suite, including Danse Russe Trepak and Valse Des Fleurs. The suite is a ballet divided into two acts with Act 1 disclosing a Christmas Eve festivity in the home of a little girl, Marie who receives a wonderful array of toys and presents, among them an ordinary Nutcracker. Woodlands Orchestra and Choir Spring Concert Directed by Gail Herbst and Ron Bacon Woodland’s Orchestra and Choir will feature a fine weekend of music written by English composers. The orchestra will feature Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-flat as well as Mars and Jupiter from his suite for large orchestra titled The Planets. Our own trombonist Dave Johnstone will be featured in a trombone concerto and you can tap your feet to the quick march Sea Songs by Vaughan Williams. Woodlands Orchestra and Choir Fall Concert Directed by Gail Herbst and Ron Bacon This classy concert will feature the orchestra with our own pianist performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17. The orchestra will also perform Moussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which was composed as a musical tribute to his Russian architect and designer friend, Viktor Alexandrovich Hartmann. Mussorgsky was considered a realist and believed the main purpose of art was to reproduce the genuine beauty found in everyday life (reality).
